The production facility layout plays a vital role in enhancing the operational performance of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). An SME in the Virgin Coconut Oil sector currently faces efficiency constraints due to an unorganized production flow. This Community Service Program (PKM) aims to redesign the SME's production facility layout to make it more effective, efficient, and compliant with sanitation standards. The implementation method consisted of three integrated stages: (1) field observation and problem identification, (2) designing a proposed layout using From-To Chart, Activity Relationship Chart and Activity Relationship Diagram instruments, and (3) socialization, design handover, and program evaluation. The result of this program is a new layout design featuring a U-shaped flow that minimizes material movement time while integrating ergonomic principles and work environment sanitation. Evaluation and feedback from the partner indicated a high level of acceptance, as the design successfully addressed the SME's operational needs. This redesigned layout is expected to serve as a strategic reference for related SMEs in optimizing production space and improving productivity sustainable.
Syamsul Anwar, Rizki Alfi, Verra Syahmer, Nadya Rishelin, Kushisa Atta Jaeba, Tosty Maylangi Sitorus, Adlina Safitri Helmi, Erwinsyah Sipahutar (Author)

The irrigated rice farming sector in Indonesia faces challenges of labour shortages and soaring production costs, which necessitate modernisation through mechanisation. However, the implementation of agricultural machinery and equipment is often hampered by low technological literacy and a lack of understanding of maintenance management at the farmer level. This community service activity aims to bridge the technical knowledge gap through outreach and education on strategies for the effective and efficient use of agricultural machinery. The method employed is a participatory approach involving lecturers as expert resource persons and students as field facilitators through four stages: problem identification, thematic education, field practice demonstrations, and evaluation. The results of the activity indicate that the transfer of knowledge regarding the three main pillars of mechanisation—appropriate effectiveness, operational efficiency, and maximisation of function—successfully shifted farmers’ mindset towards becoming professional technology managers. The application of appropriate operational patterns has been proven to reduce production costs by 25–30%.
Romi Fahri, Iis Janisa, Tolyaret Penuam, Abraham Ismail Pulungan, Tuti Wardani Siregar (Author)

This community service activity aims to provide education to students about the harmful effects of drugs on physical health, mental health, and their future; to build a school environment with an anti-drug culture that is safe. This community service activity was carried out at Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Junior High School in Medan. The method of implementing community service consists of 3 stages are the preparation stage, the implementation stage, and the reporting stage. In the preparation stage, observations and identification of field problems. At the implementation stage, education about healthy lifestyle behaviors without drugs is provided to the students. At the reporting stage, which is the preparation of documents in the form of activity reports. The results of this PKM implementation can increase the knowledge, attitudes, and actions of participants regarding the dangers of drugs and how to carry out drug prevention efforts. This is proven through the comparison results between the pre-test and post-test, where there was an increase in the average knowledge score of counseling participants about types of drugs, the dangers of drugs, and efforts to prevent drug involvement from 71.05 to 83, The average attitude score of the participants also increased from 3.23 to 3.8, likewise the average Action score of the participants also increased from 0.87 to 0.88. The conclusions is there was a significant increase in the knowledge, understanding, attitudes, and actions of the participants after being given education about drugs.
Siti Nurlani Harahap, Fitri Dian Nila Sari, Saiful Amir, Nelfita Rizka S.
This community service program aimed to provide a solution to the problem of household used cooking oil in Ujung Rambe Village, which has the potential to cause environmental pollution and health risks if not properly managed. The program was implemented through educational activities and training on processing waste cooking oil into environmentally friendly candles with economic value. The results showed that the community was able to transform waste cooking oil into value-added products that could support the development of environmentally based businesses. Community knowledge regarding the economic value of waste cooking oil increased by 83.3%, while understanding of its impacts and management increased by 20%. Overall, this program improved community understanding of household waste management and encouraged the utilization of waste into more valuable and sustainable products.
Emma Fadhilah, Riani Sari Sembiring, Lily Novianty, Juhardi Sembiring, Khairunna Utami, Widya Fernanda Putri (Author)

Medan Belawan District is a strategic coastal area in Medan City that has important ecological, social, and economic functions. The presence of mangroves and urban trees in this area acts as green infrastructure that supports coastal protection, carbon storage, biota habitat, and urban environmental resilience. This community service activity aims to strengthen coastal social ecological literacy, increase participants' understanding of the carbon valuation of mangroves and urban trees, and encourage collective awareness in supporting the development of Eco Forest City in Medan Belawan. The activities were carried out through excursion studies, field observations, academic discussions, ecological data interpretation, and dissemination of results through online mass media. The community service material was supported by data on vegetation inventory, mangrove cover, tree health, carbon storage, carbon economic value, and priority management zoning. The results of the activity showed that mangroves are a dominant component of Medan Belawan's public green spaces, namely 157 of 218 inventory units or 72.02%. The dominant species is Avicennia marina with 105 individuals or 48.17%. Mangrove cover increased from 393.28 ha in 2005 to 1,110.00 ha in 2025. Carbon storage is estimated to reach 35,106 kg C or 128,840 kg CO2e, with a carbon economic value of Rp471,091,349. The outputs of the activity include increased participant literacy, recommendations for coastal green space management, activity documentation, community service articles, and news releases in Borneonews. This activity demonstrates that community service based on scientific data can be a bridge between research, field learning, communities, and coastal management policies.
Suranto Suranto, Rahmawaty Rahmawaty, Isnen Fitri, Luthfi Hakim, Ismayadi Ismayadi, Darnianti Darnianti, Eling Tuhono, Suarno Suarno (Author)
