DEVELOPMENT OF INDONESIAN LANGUAGE AMONG ADOLESCENTS (SLANG)

Abstract

This research aims to determine the development of Indonesian among teenagers (slang). This research uses description quality. The results of this research show that almost no one uses Indonesian among teenagers nowadays, very few teenagers use Indonesian correctly. Over time, Indonesian language users have been shifted to unknown languages. Due to the arrival of foreign residents into the country, who mix Indonesian with foreign languages. Some examples of the development of Indonesian among teenagers (slang) include: Santuy/Sans, Mantul, Japri, Modus, Garcep, Gaje and others. Teenagers often use slang as self-expression and to strengthen solidarity between teenagers, because slang is also used for casual conversation, expressing reactions to something, and providing judgment. This can hinder the growth and development of the Indonesian language. Lack of awareness of loving and using Indonesian in one's own country will have an impact on the loss or extinction of Indonesian in its use in society, especially among teenagers. Moreover, with the rise in the world of artists using slang in mass and electronic media, teenagers are increasingly imitating it in their daily lives. This is natural because teenagers like to imitate new things.
